Excellent description of the difficulties finding a place in a world with such defined social roles where conformity is expected and individuality is persecuted. Solitude, distraction, and Pac-Man are sometimes all we are left with. I sincerely hope that one day you find your Cheers.

Small's is sort of a tourist bar. I suppose it's a dive by comparison but it's really one of the fanciest bars in Hamtramck. You're not going to find many locals there.

I'm guessing your experience might be a bit different at Whiskey in the Jar, Baker's Streetcar, or my personal favorite, The Painted Lady.

Don't give up on dive bars, shop around my friend. The $.75 can of Blatz or $1 Black Label is out there.
